Here’s My Opinion About Christian Dating Services
These dating services are all the rage these days, and a lot of folks who are not into the bar scene; tired of being hounded or set up on disastrous blind dates by their pushy well meaning friends; are turning to the anonymity of the computer and the online services offered for all kinds of people in all walks of life. If you want to meet folks who are like minded Christians and come from pretty much the same religious background as you do, then the Christian dating service possibly can help you find someone.
But don’t get carried away just yet—-yes, the religious part is out of the way pretty early into the game, but you still have the specter of a blind date atmosphere hanging over the entire operation. Some of us are not the priceless works of art we used to be years ago, or maybe we never were; or we are in our younger years and just don’t fit into the dating scene for what ever reason—–then the thought of baring our souls on a match up service is akin to drinking cyanide.
So, if you have many of the qualities that most seekers of romance or friendship share that frequent these dating sites, and you have not had much luck on your own finding someone who is compatible; then you probably have a rather low self esteem and are very nervous about putting yourself on display for all prospective takers to bid on. Even on the Christian dating sites, or any religious based site for that matter; the fear factor is still there, it’s just that you have already mastered one of the bigger hurdles in the mate search, and that is compatible religion. You and any potential mate material have a common leg to stand on to start.
But when you think about it, if you are a Christian and most people you’ve known who were practicing Christians were pretty much okay people (a few loose cannons here and there)—-then it makes sense, if society is pushing you to find a mate; to go to a Christian dating site to find one. That way there is a little common ground so you are not totally out in the cold with something to talk about.
I am just rambling away here with a few thoughts about Christian dating sites, even though I myself have never visited or used one: but I know enough about the other dating sites to glean some working info on the subject, and I have friends who have used religious dating sites, and were very happy with the results. I often wondered what kind of folks would register with a Christian dating site because most of the folks I grew up with that were my age were not standouts on the social scene, and had two left feet when it came dancing or partying of any kind.
As I see it when I think about all the ramifications of these dating sites, especially the Christian dating sites; I imagine two very different personality types that would frequent the sites: one would very good natured, tolerant, and forgiving—-living their religion every day: then you have the other side of the coin; very stoic, rigid folks, set in their ways and almost radical in their beliefs. So, one must keep one’s antenna on at all times, because you could run into a radical thinker just as easily as a low key individual—–just because the name says it’s Christian, doesn’t mean all the subscribers are sane.
There are just as many skewed thinkers and weird personalities on a religious site as on a non-religious site where anything goes; and you can’t assume that because someone claims to be religious that he is without faults of any kind. I think, in every day dealings, lots of folks think that when the word “Christian” is attached to anything—-like a Christian dating site, or a Christian plumbing business, or a Christian day care center; that the people involved have higher ethics and morals than the general public. I say, think again—-it could be a marketing ploy to snag your business. But if you are interested in finding out more about Christian dating, just browse up the subject on the Internet, and you’ll find plenty of sites that will help you in your search.
